FAQs Maintenance

Is the paint on my pole system weather resistant?
Yes, Hydra-RIB® uses a powder coating process to paint the poles. This process coats a bare metal object with an electrostatic powder, and then bakes it on at a very high temperature. This is an extremely durable process and is stronger than traditional paint.

All paint will eventually rust over time. You can prevent the effects of rust with proper maintenance. Repair rust spots or scratches by lightly sanding the affected area and applying rust preventative, high gloss enamel paint to the affected area. If rust has penetrated through the pole at any point replace it immediately as it is no longer stable for safe play.

How often do I need to check my basketball system and pole assembly to make sure it is secure and working properly?
You should never assume the performance of your basketball equipment is the same as it was the day before. With an outdoor playing system, the life and performance is impacted by many variables including the climate, and exposure to corrosive substances. For safety reasons, review this list before play:
  • Check all nuts and bolts and tighten any that have become loose.
  • Check all parts for excessive wear and tear.
  • Check the pole cap for cracks or tears that could allow water to seep into the pole.
  • Inspect the warning label on the pole. If it is torn, faded, or no longer legible, contact customer service for a replacement.
  • Inspect the pole sections for visible rust and repair as needed.
  • Check the base to make sure it is completely filled with water or sand.
  • Contact our customer service department if any replacement parts are necessary.
