Widely known as a top apparel company, Russell Corporation set out to expand its position as an athletic company. In 2003, Russell Corp. acquired leading ball producer Spalding. In the summer of 2004, Russell Corp. solidified its position as a leading sporting goods company by acquiring athletic equipment manufacturers American Athletic, Inc (AAI) and Huffy Sports, including brands of BPI, and Hydra-RIB respectively.
